Yet more "lovely" rain in Queensland

On Tuesday, a woman and child were rescued after their car flipped on its side in fast-flowing waters near the Warrego Highway near Charleville.

The Bureau of Meteorology is warning people in the state's southwest and coastal communities from the Gold Coast north to Hervey Bay to be prepared for flash flooding and damaging winds.

Two low pressure systems are responsible for the rain, which has set new records in some communities.

Other inland communities have been left isolated by the rain. They include Birdsville and Bedourie.

Charleville received 145mm in the 24 hours to 9am on Tuesday, while other parts of southwest Queensland, including Mitchell and Quilpie, received up to 165mm.

Parts of Brisbane received more than 100mm of rain, with flash-flooding closing a number of roads and heavy winds bringing down trees.

Lovely Rain

This happened the day after we moved house, luckily no problem for us...

Southeast Queensland is cleaning up after wild weather over the past two days that has brought flooding which inundated homes and left hundreds of cars under water.
Meanwhile, central Queensland can expect thunderstorms and heavy rain as the weather system moves north.

Brisbane's CBD was among the hardest hit areas on Tuesday, receiving 120mm of rain, most of it in an hour-long downpour that flooded streets, entered buildings, disrupted public transport and submerged cars.

Weatherzone.com.au reported the city received its heaviest 10-minute downpour of rain in at least eight years, receiving 25mm just after 11.40am (AEST).

In the Brisbane westside suburb of Milton (where I go to the office), localised flooding carried cars down streets, with reports of over 200 cars being washed away between Milton and Windsor.

My new Glider

In between all the hectic house move I got the chance to fly my new glider last Sunday. So this should make my flying a little more affordable, I am really looking forward to making long flights in it.

Moving into our new home

On Monday 15th Feb the day finally came to move house.

The removal van arrived at 7am and by 12 midday we had all our belongings in the new house. It was hot, sweaty work so after everyone had left we took a dip in the pool, zalig!

Droelie has been really stressed the last week or two as he's seen the boxes and knows we are moving again so every chance he gets he's trying to go in a packing box so he doesnt get left behind!

So when we put his carry box out he was in it really quick ready to go.

View from the patio

Here's a little video showing the view from our patio. Still lots of work to be done in the garden, new plants and paved area but that will come in the next few months.

Cooling off in the pool

The past week has been really hot and sticky here, mostly 33C so its nice to have a dip in the pool as a break from all the painting and moving boxes, etc.

This is Inge's first swim in the pool and even she agreed that the water temperature was perfect, probably a cool 24C.

My father's Seat

Rather than have a grave & headstone for my father my mum wanted a seat placed down by the shore with a small plaque so that people could sit down and admire the magnificent views over the Dee Estuary to Wales. Much as my father did in all the years that he spent his time down there as a teenager and young man at the Heswall Boys Camp and in later life fixing boat engines for his pals.




I think its a beautiful spot and a fitting memorial and I look forward to sitting on the seat and contemplating life the next time I visit England.
